Best Portfolio of 2026 / Official rules

Official rules

Last updated October 10, 2026.

The short version

Free to enter, no purchase necessary, open to people 18 and over. Publish a portfolio with at least 3 projects on XRfolio and enter it between October 15 and November 29. Winners are chosen on skill by a judging panel, with community votes counting for 10%. Prizes are listed in section 9. You keep the rights to your work. The full rules below are what count.

1. Sponsor

Best Portfolio of 2026 (the “Competition”) is run by XRfolio (“Sponsor”, “we”), operator of xrfolio.page, based in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi, United States. Questions go to support@xrtech.dev. The Competition is not sponsored, endorsed or administered by any social network, or by any employer of any judge.

2. Who can enter

  • You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority where you live if that is higher, when you enter.
  • The Competition is open worldwide, except to residents of the province of Quebec, residents of any country or region subject to comprehensive United States sanctions, and anyone else where the Competition is prohibited or restricted by law. Void where prohibited.
  • Not eligible: employees and contractors of the Sponsor (including anyone paid to build rooms or templates for XRfolio during the Competition), the judges, and the immediate family members (spouse, parent, child, sibling) and household members of any of them.
  • One entry per person. An entry is tied to the XRfolio account that submits it.

Our server’s clock is the official clock. Entries received after the deadline are not accepted.

4. How to enter

  1. Create a free XRfolio account at xrfolio.page.
  2. Build a portfolio in the XRfolio builder and publish it to an xrfolio.page address. The free plan is enough.
  3. Submit it using the form at xrfolio.page/competition/2026/enter, confirming your age and acceptance of these rules.

No purchase or payment of any kind is necessary to enter or win, and buying a paid plan does not improve your chances. Posting about the Competition on social media is welcome but never required.

5. Entry requirements

  • The portfolio must be live on XRfolio hosting (an xrfolio.page address, or a custom domain served by XRfolio) when you enter and from the entry deadline until winners are announced.
  • It must contain at least 3 projects. A project is an object a visitor can click to open a write-up. Decorations and template placeholders do not count.
  • You may keep improving and republishing your portfolio until the entry deadline. After the deadline, leave it unchanged until winners are announced. Fixing a broken link or a typo is allowed if you tell us at support@xrtech.dev. We may judge the version that was live at the deadline.

6. Content rules

  • The projects must be your own work, or work you have the right to show. Credit collaborators and say what your part was. Room templates and models from the XRfolio library may be used for the room and props.
  • AI tools may be part of your process. If AI generated a substantial part of a project, say so in that project’s write-up.
  • Entries must follow the XRfolio Terms of Service. No content that infringes anyone’s rights, breaks a confidentiality agreement, or is hateful, sexually explicit, defamatory or illegal.

7. Community voting

  • Anyone with an XRfolio account (free) may vote from October 15 until voting closes. Each account may vote once for any number of entries, and may withdraw a vote before voting closes. Entrants may not vote for their own entry.
  • Votes from fake, duplicate, automated or purchased accounts, or from vote-trading schemes, are removed. We may disqualify an entry that benefits from them, whether or not the entrant arranged it.
  • Weekly Community Picks: for each of the first 6 weeks of the entry period (weeks start on Thursdays at 12:00 AM), the entry receiving the most new votes that week wins that week’s pick. Ties go to the entry that reached the tied total first. An entry can win more than one week.

8. Judging

This is a contest of skill. Chance plays no part in choosing any winner. Entries are scored on:

CriterionWeightWhat it means
Technical execution25%Models, materials and lighting, and a room that loads fast and runs smoothly on an ordinary laptop.
Creative vision25%A room that could only be yours: a concept, a composition, a point of view.
Presentation20%A visitor can find your work, open it and understand it in under a minute.
Hireability20%A clear role, real case studies with process and results, and an obvious way to contact you. Would a judge book the interview?
Community vote10%Your share of community votes, converted to a 0 to 100 percentile rank.
  1. Screening: XRfolio staff check every entry for eligibility and score it on the first four criteria. The top 20 go to the judges.
  2. Judging: a panel of at least three judges with professional experience in games, design or XR scores each shortlisted entry independently on the first four criteria. Their scores are averaged. Judges take part in a personal capacity and are announced on the competition page.
  3. Community vote: each shortlisted entry’s vote total, measured when voting closes, is converted to a percentile rank among all valid entries (0 to 100) and weighted at 10%.
  4. The 10 highest final scores are the finalists. The highest is the Grand Prize winner. Ties are broken by the judges’ Creative vision score, then by a vote of the judges.

The judges’ decisions are final.

9. Prizes

Cash amounts for the Grand Prize and Community Choice depend on the number of valid entries when entries close. A valid entry is one that meets these rules and has not been withdrawn or disqualified.

Valid entriesGrand PrizeCommunity Choice
Fewer than 250$100$50
250 to 499$250$75
500 to 749$500$100
750 to 999$750$100
1,000 or more$1,000$100
  • Grand Prize (1): cash as above ($100 to $1,000), plus 12 months of XRfolio Pro (approximate retail value $108).
  • Community Choice (1): cash as above ($50 to $100), plus 12 months of XRfolio Pro, for the valid entry with the most votes when voting closes. If that entry also wins the Grand Prize, Community Choice goes to the entry with the next most votes.
  • Finalists (10): 12 months of XRfolio Pro (approximate retail value $108), a finalist badge, and a place in the finalists’ showcase.
  • Weekly Community Pick (up to 6): 3 months of XRfolio Pro (approximate retail value $27) and a feature on XRfolio’s social channels.
  • Top Recruiter (1): $50 cash and 12 months of XRfolio Pro, for the entrant whose entry page or share link is credited with the most valid entries from other people, with a minimum of 3. Credit is recorded when the new entrant first submits. Ties go to the entrant who reached the tied total first. Not awarded if nobody reaches the minimum.

Maximum total cash: $1,150. Months of Pro won in more than one category add together. Prizes cannot be transferred. Cash cannot be substituted for Pro. If more partner prizes are added, they will be listed on the competition page and these rules will be updated.

10. Winners

  • Potential winners are contacted at the email address on their XRfolio account within 7 days of the announcement date and must reply within 14 days, confirming eligibility and payment details. A potential winner who does not reply, or is found ineligible, forfeits the prize, and it goes to the next-ranked entry.
  • Cash is paid by PayPal or Wise, in US dollars, within 30 days of confirmation. Pro is applied to the winner’s XRfolio account.
  • Winners are responsible for any taxes on their prizes. Winners in the United States who receive $600 or more in prizes from the Sponsor in a calendar year must provide a completed IRS Form W-9 before payment. Winners elsewhere may be asked for a Form W-8BEN.
  • The list of winners is posted on the competition page after the announcement and is available by email from support@xrtech.dev.

11. Your rights and ours

You keep all rights to your work. By entering, you give the Sponsor a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence, until December 31, 2027, to show your entry’s name, headline, statement, screenshots and link, and the name you entered with, on xrfolio.page, in social posts and emails, and on a livestream, to run and promote the Competition. Winners agree that their name and entry may be announced.

12. Privacy

We use the information you give us to run the Competition: to check eligibility, contact you, count votes, and pay prizes. Your country and email address are never shown publicly. See the Privacy Policy for the rest.

13. Disqualification

We may disqualify any entry, or any entrant, that breaks these rules, interferes with voting, harasses other entrants or judges, or acts to undermine the fair running of the Competition. Withdrawn and disqualified entries do not count toward the prize ladder.

14. Changes and problems

If fraud, a technical failure or anything else outside our control stops the Competition running as planned, we may modify, suspend or extend it, and will announce any change on the competition page. We will not reduce the guaranteed minimum prizes. We are not responsible for entries that are lost, late or incomplete because of technical problems, or for hosting outages outside our control.

15. Legal

By entering, you agree to these rules and to the decisions of the Sponsor and judges. To the extent the law allows, the Sponsor is not liable for any loss or injury arising from taking part in the Competition or from accepting or using a prize. These rules are governed by the laws of the State of Hawaiʻi, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, and disputes are subject to the state and federal courts located in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi.
